Tim Kopra

Tim is a Senior Faculty member at IPL, and a partner with Blue Bear Capital, a venture capital firm focused on innovative technologies that improve the energy supply chain. Previously, Tim served as a NASA astronaut. While at NASA, Tim lived and worked on the International Space Station, completing two spaceflights and three spacewalks over the span of 244 days. In 2016, Tim served as the ISS Commander for Expedition 47.

Tim began his career in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot and then an experimental test pilot, where he served in several leadership and operational roles. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech, and Masters in Business Administration from Columbia Business School and London Business School.

Tim is enjoying more earthbound pursuits these days, including spending time with family and friends, helping his local veteran community, and mentoring entrepreneurs. He also enjoys home improvement projects and is aspiring to get back into triathlon shape.
